The Dichotomy: White Box vs. Black Box Models

A black box is but an embodiment of an algorithm. On the contrary, the white box- also referred to as a glass box or a transparent box- forms a system that's internally inspectable for the function it performs.

The black box model in AI uses a machine learning algorithm for generating predictions, however, tracing the reasoning behind these predictions is unfeasible.

The white box model strives to incorporate restraints that foster transparency in the machine learning process. This transparency might be a lawful and ethical requisite in industries such as healthcare, banking, or insurance to name a few.
